A proper bit of countryside charm — our Highland Cow wax/oil burner is a chunky little ceramic coo with a shaggy russet coat, cream horns and the softest smile. He sits happily on a windowsill, a mantel or a kitchen shelf, and he is an easy gift for anyone who loves animals.

Pop one or two wax melt cubes into the dish. For a tea-light burner, light the tea-light beneath; for electric burners, simply switch on. Never leave unattended and keep away from children and pets. When the scent fades, let the wax harden and pop it out.

- Never add water to the dish, and never use the burner without wax in it.
- Use one tea light only, and let the burner cool fully before handling or cleaning it.
